For most BrainHQ users, we recommend training with the Personal Trainer without making any changes to it. The Personal Trainer is specifically designed to meet the training goals of most adults who want to improve their cognitive abilities. However, if there's a skill you'd like to work on or specific exercises have been recommended to you, setting a Custom Focus is a great way to set that up.
In this article we'll cover:
How to find the Custom Focus
- Log in to BrainHQ at www.brainhq.com
- Click the Personal Trainer button
- Click on the “FOCUS” button in the top left corner of the Personal Trainer page
On the following page you will have a list of many different focuses to choose from, broken into three categories: Standard focuses, Specialized focuses, and Custom focuses at the very bottom of the screen.
Exercises
Build your own training program from scratch by adjusting the active set of exercises for the Personal Trainer. The active set describes the exercises that the Personal Trainer has access to. Select exactly those exercises you would like to see in the personal trainer. Exercises at the top of the list will occur earlier in your training, and later ones will appear as you master those. You can reorder this list by clicking the up arrow located on each exercise button:
If you want to remove an exercise from the Personal Trainer you can click the "X" button next to the exercise name to prevent the Personal Trainer from adding that exercise to your schedule.
Saving a Custom Focus
You can save custom focuses that you have built in your BrainHQ account. Adjust the exercises on your active set as desired, and then name your focus in the field to the left.
Once you have made changes, please be sure to click the ">" button at the top of the screen, or your changes will not be saved.
This will automatically send you back to your Personal Trainer's schedule so you can begin training on your new Focus right away. Your Focus will now be available on the Focus Menu as its own dedicated tile.
You can have up to three Custom Focuses saved on your account at a time. To delete a Focus, select the tile for that Focus and click the red "Delete" button beneath the name box. Note: This button will not be available if that Focus is currently in use on your Trainer.
Difficulty and Training Strategy
The Custom Focus section used to have options to adjust the difficulty of your training, as well as whether your Personal Trainer is set to emphasize depth or breadth in its choice of exercises. These settings are now found in your Profile page. For more about these settings, please refer to this article.
