The Recognition Exercise is one of the toughest exercises. It is also training an absolutely vital element of cognitive function.
The Recognition exercise trains by quickly showing a face. The task is then to identify the subject shown from a selection of faces.
The exercise gets harder in many ways, with the goal of pushing one's fusiform face area to recognize faces in more difficult circumstances. Here’s how:
- The angle of the face changes. Early on, the matches are between a face looking straight ahead to the same face looking straight ahead. But later, the matches are between a face looking straight ahead with one looking at a 45 degree angle or in profile.
- The number of possible answers available to choose from increases, from 3 to 6.
- At first, male and female faces are mixed together. In later levels, all faces are the same gender, making it harder to tell them apart.
